Running Journal 1/22/2020 – 1/28/2020

I decided a week ago to post a weekly running journal to help me stay motivated in my training and hopefully help others to stay on track with their training. I set a goal for each day and journaled each day.

Occasionally I can walk at work to burn some calories.

1/22/2020 – Wednesday. I woke up a little early for me. I had a cup of coffee prior to getting on the treadmill and shamelessly promoted myself with a picture of the cup and my lower legs with my shoes on. I did get on the treadmill and decided to walk only 1/4 of a mile before I ran 2 miles mostly on a downhill slope. I think it’s easier starting back training after so long off with a little help from the decline. I listened to motivational speeches while I was running. All day long I told myself that I was going to run that night when I got home but am too tired and have to be up at 5 am tomorrow morning to work at Cobb.

 – Goal for tomorrow – run an extra 2 miles that I missed today. Do it immediately after work, no excuses. Also, journal after I am done. Listen to more motivational speeches while running. It is helpful.

1/23/2020 – Thursday. I didn’t wake up early today to run only because I already had to get up early to shower prior to my 6 am shift. Today reminded me that I am actually able to wake up early, I just lack proper motivation to accomplish that goal. I ran on the treadmill tonight in the basement with a decline. Brett worked out in the gym area next to me. I played motivational speeches. They really do help me. I wanted to quit at three but the speakers kept talking about self discipline. I feel great right now though but I sure am hungry. I’m glad I generally accomplished my goal. I didn’t start right after work, but I did start right after I worked on my blog.

 – Goal for tomorrow – rest day. Consider working arms and shoulders at the gym. I’d really love to have nice arms. Get better apples and cut them up. Journal after I finish at the gym.

1/24/2020 – Friday. I truly took a rest day today. Had to transfer the title over to Nicholas and had to get his apartment stuff situated. I did not get apples.

– Goal for tomorrow – Wake up early and run 6 miles for the long run of the week.

1/25/2020 – Saturday. I just got off the treadmill. I did my full 6 miles this morning. I woke up early and listened to the motivational speech alarm. I really like that thing. I decided to look into becoming a running coach. Obviously not as a full time job but to help other runners and grow my blog. I think it’ll give me some more credibility. I really am motivated by joining the few groups I did online. I think I could really enjoy this writing process and running. Back to the running portion this morning. I listened to a motivational speaking YouTube video. It was one that I used to listen to like last year. I really like it. I was thinking I would only do maybe 4 miles and finish the other 2 after work but I got all 6 in with time to spare to write this short journal.

 – Goal for the rest of today and tomorrow. Research running coaching programs and decide on a plan of action. Come up with a couple more blog posts. Rest day tomorrow (maybe I’ll run just a couple of miles before work.)

1/26/2020 – Sunday. Rest day today. I decided to actually rest. I had to work anyway so it wasn’t that bad. I did achieve the goal of deciding on the coaching program I am going to do. I decided I want to coach marathon and half-marathon runners. Running long distance is my jam.

1/27/2020 – Monday. I didn’t wake up early to run today. I am going to bed too late at night. I need to learn how to turn off the devices and just sleep. I did make a commitment to run after work though and I accomplished it. I went straight upstairs and changed into running clothes. I warmed up with a half mile walk and did a quick 3 mile run. I drank coffee first, so I had to stop and use the bathroom. This was a mistake. I really was just hungry. I am hungry now too.

 – Goal for tomorrow – My calendar says I am supposed to cross train, so I suppose I will go to the gym but I really want to at least run 2 miles tomorrow. That really isn’t anything. I think I will work my shoulders and biceps. I want them so bad! Maybe I’ll even take the dogs on a walk. Also, finish writing the post I started. Maybe write 2. Research some stuff about running and give credit to sources. Be a real writer.

1/28/2020 – Tuesday. I didn’t get up early and workout. Instead I did some stuff at the house and went for a walk then run outside. It was a lovely day and I was glad I went. My walk was actually at a pretty good warmup pace – 16 min mile. I then went for a quick 1 mile run. Yes, only 1 mile. I know I should have done two but I didn’t. I was happy that I ran it at a 10:14 min pace. I want to try and increase that pace and learn how exactly to do that. I felt pretty good the whole time and was surprised that I jogged that quickly. I ate pizza tonight though and know that it is going to affect my run tomorrow. I’m going to go early and fasted. I tried writing more posts but I want them to be more science based, so I need my work scholarly article websites to get my hands on the research.

 – Goal for tomorrow – Sign up for the certification. Send in copy of my degrees and CPR card. 5 mile run in the morning. Go to the Silver Comet Trail first thing in the morning and get it over and done with. Either there or to Swift Cantrell Park. Either way, no food before running. Attempt to get more scholarly sources for blog for my posts.

Overall I am liking keeping a journal of my runs and setting small goals for the day. I did learn some things looking back over this week. I need to get to sleep earlier and wake up early, listening to motivational YouTube videos is helpful to me, and I want to write posts that have some credibility to them and aren’t just written with my opinion in mind. I really love to learn and want to pass along the knowledge.

– Goal for this upcoming week. Continue daily journaling. Follow training schedule but make sure I cross train like I am supposed to. Go ahead and weigh myself and consider adding it to my post here.
